Mr Blair,
Your failure to condemn Israel's killing of Palestinians
To date more than 330 Palestinians and Israeli Arabs have been killed and more than 10,000 others have been injured by the Israeli army.
These deaths and injuries have occurred in clashes between unequals, with the Palestinians and Israeli Arabs in the overwhelming majority of cases wielding stones and the Israeli forces using machine guns, tanks and helicopter gunships.
However, not a word of condemnation has been uttered by your government, thereby making a mockery of your so-called "ethical foreign policy" and raising further questions as to whether your Zionist leanings are in the best interests of the UK. Where else in the world would the British government - a self-proclaimed guardian of human rights - have turned mute in the face of such slaughter?
You and Robin Cook, as the prime minister and foreign secretary of one of the permanent members of the UN Security Council, owe the British public, the Palestinians and the entire world an explanation of why you are silent in the face of the Israeli army's murderous actions, which have been judged by the UN High Commission on Human Rights as "war crimes" and "crimes against humanity".
You must also explain how this silence squares up with your professed ethical foreign policy. You must convince us that your silence in the face of Israel's criminal behaviour is not related to your personal predisposition towards Zionism and the state of Israel.
Mr Blair, your Zionist leanings are a matter of record and have been shown by, among other things, your appointment of Lord Levy - a committed Zionist with considerable business interests in Israel - as your personal envoy to the Middle East.
In contrast to your government's double standards in the Middle East, hundreds of UK Israeli Jews have condemned Israel's abuses of Palestinian human rights and its illegal occupation of Palestinian territories.
In a petition which to date has been signed by more than 600 people, Jews Against the Occupation have urged Israel to end the illegal occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, dismantle the illegal Jewish settlements and recognize the right of the Palestinian people to self determination.
We challenge you to invite your friend and adviser Michael Levy to sign this petition.
We further challenge you to take the initiative for peace in the Middle East and, together with Britain's European partners, to put pressure on the Israeli government to enter into sincere and meaningful negotiations with the Palestinians with a view to reaching a just and lasting peace agreement based on the full and unconditional withdrawal from all the territories occupied by Israel in 1967, including East Jerusalem, the dismantling of all Jewish settlements established on those territories and the right to return or compensation for the Palestinian refugees.
Yours sincerely,
